Search

Location Search

Find places on the map by searching for addresses, cities, landmarks, or any geographic location. The search bar is located at the top of the map.

How to Search

  1. Click the search bar at the top of the map
  2. Type at least 3 characters of your search
  3. Wait for results to appear (searches automatically)
  4. Click a result to fly to that location

Search Examples

  • Cities — "New York", "London", "Tokyo"
  • Addresses — "123 Main Street, Seattle"
  • Landmarks — "Eiffel Tower", "Central Park"
  • Countries — "France", "Australia"
  • Postal codes — "10001", "SW1A 1AA"

Search Results

Results show different icons based on the type of place:

  • City/town markers for populated places
  • Country flags for nations
  • Building icons for specific addresses
  • Location pins for other places

Navigating Results

  • Use arrow keys to move through results
  • Press Enter to select the highlighted result
  • Press Escape to close the search dropdown
  • Click outside to dismiss results

After Selecting

When you select a search result:

  • The map animates smoothly to the location
  • Zoom level adjusts to fit the place
  • Cities zoom to city level
  • Countries zoom to show the whole country
  • Addresses zoom to street level

Search Tips

  • Be specific — "Paris, France" instead of just "Paris"
  • Include context — "Main St, Boston" for better results
  • Try variations if first search doesn't work
  • Search works globally in any language
Search is powered by OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service. Results may vary based on how places are mapped in OpenStreetMap.

Clearing Search

Click the X button in the search bar to clear your search and close the results dropdown.
